the Last Battle pt3
Or we could just sit around and glare
But I will point out that the Dwarves jeering things like “Darkies” is supposed to sound awful. It’s to show how nasty the Dwarves are being (this is not language we see any of Our Heroes using-who knows if they’re thinking it but they never say it).
The Dwarves are representative of a certain kind of person. This type feels that they’ve been so hurt by their culture’s dominant religion that they have given up believing in anything. But it’s more than that, they don’t care. They’re not willing to learn about faith anymore, they’ve lost respect for anyone with faith to the point where they won’t even listen when you’re talking. Everyone with faith is automatically deemed stupid or gullible or just plain evil and because of that, this type of person no longer feels that they owe you even basic courtesy. They will not even cooperate with you towards a common goal (this happens often in the Left Wing political circles, where people become so rude about religion that they’re driving religious lefties away). They write books called “The End of Faith” and “The God Delusion” and then complain about how cranky and narrow minded religious people are.
"You believers. You're so deluded with your *belief*. Why don't you ever shut up so I can continue telling you just how stupid I think you are? I mean, you're always going on and on about your "god" which we all know is just a-"
"Excuse me, could I say-"
"Hey, I'm enlightening you here. You're always blabbing and blabbing and you never let anyone else have a voice. Now, where was I? Oh yeah. I was talking about how anyone who believes in God is just a brainwashed moron and *I* would never fall for something so ridiculous-hey-where are you going? See, that's exactly the problem with you religious types. You can't handle alternative points of view."
It does not matter whether gods are real or not, like Uncle Andrew they’ve tried so hard to shut out everything that they are no longer able to hear the gods even if they wanted to. For all intents and purposes, gods really don’t exist to them. The depth of their denial is so great Aslan is actually unable to get through to them at all. So there they will sit, in their shack, forever, complaining because complaining makes them happy. And they can be proud of themselves that they’re never going to fall for the faith con again.
