An FAQ for the New. What's your position on homosexuality?Well, I'm bi, does that answer your question?
What political party do you belong to?I'm a registered Democrat.
Pro Choice or Pro Life?I'm a feminist of childbearing years who does not under any circumstances want to have children. Do the math.
What country do you live in?The United States.
What are your hobbies?Cooking, sewing, gardening, doll collecting, writing, fantasy fiction-especially Harry Potter and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and writing kinky gay erotica.
You believe in God?The capital G and the lower case
gs.
Do you believe women should hold positions of power in a religion?Yes. I refuse to be part of any religion or denomination that doesn't allow women to preach/lead.
What is your religion? My official religion is Christianity. My mother was raised Catholic in a long line of Catholics, my father was raised Protestant in a long line of Protestants. My parents converted to the
Church of the Nazarene, which is an
evangelical Protestant denomination of Christianity. This is the denomination I attended Sunday School and worship services in, and was baptized into at the age of seven. I wouldn't really say I'm one of them now, but it's equally hard to escape the fact that my whole life revolved around it. You just don't erase something like that.
I became interested in
magic and paganism post high school, and eventually settled on
Ancient Near East paganism, the gayer, sluttier, version of polytheistic
Judaism. What's your street cred?I was born in the Colorado Springs Complex (although it wasn’t nicknamed that back then). In my lifetime I've been a guest at many different types of Christian churches and met a variety of different Christians.
My dad is a semi retired minister, my mother a semi retired deaconess and Sunday School teacher. I attended church camp every summer from age 5 to age 14. I was active in Youth Group and denominational youth competitions (at which I once won a regional Bronze medal). I attended Sunday School and worship services from my birth to age 17 when I dropped back to attending only
one service per Sunday.
Three years later I ceased attending services completely in order to focus more on the actual study of my actual religion. Since then, I've been reading everything I can get my hands on, with a particular focus on the problem of fundamentalism in America. So please, remember that I do, in fact, know what's going on out there and whatever complaints you have about Christianity, they come as absolutely no surprise to me.
This does not, however, mean I know everything about my religion. Many idiots try to claim that a person should be an expert on their faith and if they can't provide the perfect answer quickly enough, it means that faith is obviously worthless. Do not be one of those idiots.
Why blog about them? (religions, not idiots)1) To give myself a place to contemplate, celebrate and vent.
2) To educate people.
Please note what is
not on the list. It has never been a goal and it never will be, so let's just move on from that now, mkay?
How many religious blogs do you have?Three. This one, the
the old version and
Cakes for the Queen of Heaven a backup version.
Why is it called The Cosmicdance? Two reasons, really. I love glam rock and
this song. Which is actually called "The Cosmic Dancer" not whatever people usually think it's called. The second reason is that "the cosmic dance" is another term for the union of God and Goddess in the dance of creation, and that is very important to me.
What's with the obsession with all things Hebrew/Jewish etc?Not entirely sure myself. But someone has to care, so I figured it'd be me. It might be part of the goddess thing, or it might be in reaction to the breathtaking ignorance other Christians seem to have about such topics. Let's face it, I have the time to devote to paying attention to this stuff, so I might as well.
What have you been covering so far?The Memories from my previous journal (the Bible entries are also available at CakesfortheQueen).
What are your top pet peeves in religious discussion?I'm glad you asked! What happens if I say something you don't like?Depends on who is saying it, what they're saying and how they're saying it. Ultimately though, even while I try to keep the peace and try to respect other people's opinions, this journal is not a democracy. I almost never delete posts or comments, but if you come on here and overstep the boundaries, I
will cease to respond. I may never speak to you again, depending on who you are, what you said, and how you said it.
An example of a way to approach me that ensures I will never speak to you again, anywhere, ever for any reason.
